Task 1: how does Emmet come across? How effective would this trailer be in promoting the film?
Emmet comes across as a normal guy who is definitely not cut up to be a super hero, but because of wild style he steps up to meet the challenge because she believes he has potential. Emmet doesnt seem as though he has a strong physique we know this because in the trailer he starts to do jumping jacks but he fails after 2, which shows he is not so fit unlike usual heroes. He also allows himself to be manipulated because when he buys a coffee the man tells him it costs $37 but Emmet just goes with it and buys it anyway even though he knows its completely over priced. He isn't very aware of his surroundings, he is very clumsy as we see him fall into the first hole that he stumbles upon. He isnt seen as a very brave character, when wild style is driving him on the motor bike he is shouting and screaming as if he's scared. He would much prefer just to lie on his sofa and chill in his home rather than go out and save people.
This trailer offers us comedy which brings people pleasure, which also makes people want to watch the movie. It has a lot going on with the colours and the music. I think it would attract a lot of young ages due to the theme of it being lego and because the trailer is very exciting and funny. The trailer shows that it is family friendly which is good for attracting more people as more age groups would be watching it. I think the trailer overall is very effective for promoting the film because it shows the little bits of funny moments and everyone loves a good comedy.

ReplyDeleteYou write very well on how Emmet is represented: you understand that he is an 'ordinary guy' who is physically unfit, timid and unadventurous, easily pushed around and keen to conform and be liked, rather than stand up for himself. You support your points with evidence - good. You note that he has the potential for change because Wyldstyle believes in him.
You also identify the appeal of the trailer and what it promises audiences, in particular, comedy, excitement and colour. You could add 'action adventure' themes like chase, quest, spectacle and also a big range of characters in the cast.
